Betty

By Tiffany McDaniel

I was sent this book for an honest read and review by @hachetteaus – thank you!

Story 📖

Man, I have no words for this book except visceral. The way this book was written was just…wow.

Betty Carpenter is born in 1954 to a Cherokee dad and a white woman. She is born in rural Ohio and the way the landscape is set by the author is nothing short of electric.

This book tells the story of Betty and her family as she is growing up and it’s not pretty. Her mother Alka and her father, Landon have both suffered trauma and how it permeates through the family is so hard to read.

I found this book extremely hard to read but it was because of the key elements throughout the book but also the way the author wrote some of the traumatic scenes with so much candour.

This book is the best book I have read in 2020 so far. Wow.

Summary 📖

The spiritual and Native American elements woven throughout the book and the trauma all come together. This author has done a masterful job of writing the story of her mother Betty as the key protagonist.

Suggestion 📖

This is the best book of 2020. Would recommend to all to read.

Wow.
