Story 📖
Phoebe is the principal of a small primary school in the Yarra Valley. Phoebe is also the single mother of Caleb, an 18 year old who has been accused of deliberately setting a bushfire that destroyed the community, took lives and destroyed the homes of their neighbours.
As a volunteer firefighter, Caleb (a square goth peg in the small town of Brunton) has already had a brush with the law so when his whereabouts cannot be established on the day in question, he becomes suspect #1.
Phoebe wants to believe that her son is innocent and this story takes both Caleb and Phoebe on a journey of what happens when the bond between a mother and son has been broken.
Summary 📖
This book was riveting and absolutely kept me on the edge of my seat. It is so easy to see how any one that stands out in a country town is an easy target.
Caleb and Phoebe were both fascinating and complex characters.
Suggestion 📖
Extremely poignant read after the devastating bushfires that occurred earlier this year across Australia. I am glad I picked this up as it was a really interesting read.
